Eating, NOT dieting

I am going to Miami next week for a conference and will have a bit of time to stroll along the beach.  As I got out of the shower this morning and glanced at myself in the mirrow as I dried off, a gasp and scream could be heard throughout the apartment.  Oh god, that gut!!  I try to keep my ideal body weight (about 155 lbs) at all times but it can be a challenge.  I DON'T go on diets.  They don't work.  Period.  And my advice to you is that you don't go on diets either.  What I do is eat the correct portions of the correct foods that provide me with energy, stamina, mental clarity and low body fat.  And then I make sure I don't eat my way from the subway to my home (all of a 5 minutes walk) in which I could easily consume 2000 calories of junk food! 

What does all this have to do with the brain?  Well, your brain is the control center of your entire body and all your organs.  It is the ringleader in everything, including your metabolism.  For those of you who blame your weight on a "thryoid condition" or some other glandular problem, I have some tough love for you:  that is all a bunch of horse hooey!  Einstein established a basic law of physics.  Matter cannot be created.  It is changed into different forms, and in the case of the human body, if we eat the right amount of the right foods (and throw in a bit of exercise) we will land at our ideal body weights.  If we are overweight it is because we are eating too much food.  Period.  So, at neurOasis we understand a couple of things:  that it is very difficult to lose weight, especially if you don't know where to start.  We also understand and are expert in helping our patients learn proper nutrition for the best possible functioning of our brain and bodies.  Did you know that obesity leads to increased pain perception in the brain?  Smoking does the same thing.  Imagine:  simply quitting smoking and losing weight can and DOES lead to reduced pain perception and increased quality of life. 

So, I have been eating well and staying away from snacks.  I have been able to get to the gym about 3 days weekly.  I have lost 7 pounds in just over two weeks.  I don't have a magic pill, I just put into action a way of living that works.  I practice what I preach and would like to help you as well.  Together, we can move mountains and you can be the best person you can and WANT to be.
