Dr. G’s Approach to Headache and Migraine (The Concept of neurOasis) |
|
Migraine headache and chronic head pain does not need to be a way of life! Dr. Geraci specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of headache, migraine, and neck pain, so he can design a treatment regimen personalized for you. At your consultation, you will receive a comprehensive neurological evaluation that may include any or all of the following: Neurological examination, MRI or CT scan of your brain, and blood tests to look for certain infections, ailments, or food allergies that may be causing your headaches. You may also be introduced to techniques of meditation as Dr. Geraci has spent many years learning the power of this modality in treating headache and all forms of pain and other chronic conditions.
Because Dr. G works hard to form a trusting relationship with his patients, treatment recommendations are always discussed at length. Dr. G also may refer you for physical therapy, massage or acupuncture as he believes strongly in the power of alternative therapies in the treatment of headaches. Providing complimentary medical and physical treatments that enhance western medicine often lead to improvement in patients who have suffered for years without relief. |

One of the most common and troubling complaints is dizziness. Many patients with dizziness are disabled by their symptoms and have been to many physicians without answers or effective treatments. Dr. Geraci specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of dizziness and vertigo.
The first problem is that dizziness and vertigo mean different things to different people. We have a basic philosophy of trying to understand exactly what the patient is experiencing in order to diagnose their problem and prescribe effective treatments.
We understand that the feeling of dizziness or vertigo is subjective and many patients may feel isolated with their symptoms, unable to convey to others how disabling their feelings of dizziness, movement or spinning might be. |

Nerve and Muscle Disorders |
|
If you have nerve or muscle complaints, Dr. G might use an EMG to help diagnose your symptoms. It’s not a big a deal as it seems!
• EMG = Electromyography • Evaluates and records signals that activate the muscles • Detects electrical potential generated when muscle cells contract and even when they’re at rest
If you have been diagnosed with neuropathy and told there is nothing that can be done, then you just might be surprised to find out otherwise at neuroasis. Dr. G wants to help. Many neuropathies are the result of underlying illness or are part of an inflammatory condition that can be treated. Unless your neuropathy has been diagnosed by a physician with expertise in this area of neurology, then you haven't had a complete evaluation and discussion regarding treatment options. |

Electromyography (EMG) is a technique for evaluating and recording the activation signal of muscles. EMG is performed using an instrument called an electromyograph (these days it's basically a high tech PC laptop!), to produce a record called an electromyogram. An electromyograph detects the electrical potential generated by muscle cells when these cells contract, and also when the cells are at rest. The nerves are also tested during the portion called nerve conduction velocity (NCV). This part of the test evaluates the integrity and health of the nerves.
Dr. Geraci uses the information from this type of testing to determine the nature of the nerve or muscle disorder you may have, or to verify findings on tests such as an MRI of the spine or brain.

EEG (Electroencephalography) and Epilepsy |
|
Dr. Geraci specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy (seizures). He will go the distance to uncover what is often a subtle disorder and sometimes missed by others. If you have strange and recurring symptoms that have not been diagnosed, we encourage you to visit us at neurOasis, be evaluated by Dr. Geraci and learn if you have a condition that can be easily treated.
One of the tests you will need and can be conveniently done in our offices is an EEG. |

Botox (Botulinum toxin, type A) is a medicine. That's it. A medicine. Anything and everything you've heard from Aunt Millie or on the local news or in the gossip column of the newspaper is likely wrong information that might mislead you and move you away from a potentially helpful therapy.
Not everyone needs or can benefit from Botox therapy, but for those who do, here's the scoop: |
